Privacy policy
New York Cloud does not collect your data. There is no account, no server, no analytics and no advertising. Nothing you do in the app is sent to us, because there is nothing to send it to.
Last updated 26 October 2026
That is the whole policy. The detail below is only there to be specific about it.
Location
The Near Me screen asks for your location so it can sort places by how far you are from them.
- The app asks iOS for one fix, at coarse accuracy — a hundred metres, which is as much as sorting a list needs.
- That fix is held in memory for as long as the screen is open. It is never written to disk and never transmitted to us.
- If you are outside New York, the screen can offer places near you instead. To do that it asks Apple’s MapKit what is nearby, which sends your approximate location to Apple exactly as it would if you opened Apple Maps. That is Apple’s service under Apple’s privacy policy, not ours, and we receive nothing back from it about you. “Show New York anyway” skips it entirely.
- Refusing location permission costs you that one screen. Everything else in the app works without it.
Photographs
The app lets you keep photographs of your own.
- They are saved inside the app’s own storage on your device.
- They are never uploaded, never shared, and not readable by other apps.
- Choosing them uses Apple’s own photo picker, which runs outside the app. The app never gets access to your photo library — only to the pictures you pick.
- Deleting the app deletes them.
What the app remembers
Three things, all of them on your device and none of them about you: which places you have marked as seen on the Been There screen, the photographs described above, and whether you chose the man’s or the woman’s voice on New York Talk.
The recordings
The spoken phrases on New York Talk are audio files inside the app. Playing one involves no network request and no microphone. The app never listens to anything.
What we do not do
- No analytics or usage tracking of any kind.
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No third-party SDKs that collect data. The app has no third-party code in it at all.
- No crash reporting that identifies you.
- No sale or sharing of personal information, because none is collected.
- No tracking across apps or websites.
Links to other websites
Entries link out to museums, theatres, transport operators and ticket sellers. Those pages open in Safari inside the app. Once you are on somebody else’s website, their privacy policy applies, not this one.
Children
The app is a travel guide. It does not knowingly collect anything from anybody, of any age, because it does not collect anything at all.
Changes
If a future version of the app ever starts collecting something, this page will say so before that version ships.
